Sport-E. Spice?
Disclaimer: I know nothing about the Spice Girls. I was MmmBopping as my peers Spiced up their lives. But I couldn’t resist the reference and using this photo of A² with a member of the group (I know this is the wrong Spice Girl- just go with it). The real reason for this post? I am going to a UT Basketball game today. Thanks to J and her ticket-mongering skills, I am going to be...

Gunner Stahl Should've Gone Stickside
QUACK, QUACK, QUACK! Nothing like a screening of D2 with LBG to ring in the weekend. But really: Gunner Stahl, what were you thinking? Oh, and Joshua Jackson- I never would’ve guessed you would have grown up to be so cute. (Sidenote: I love Fringe! And JJ Abrams/Jackson do genius so well).

EELS: End Times
I love Eels (the original E., perhaps). How can you not? After putting out one of my favorite albums of last year (and possibly all time) with Hombre Lobo, Mark Oliver Everett has already turned around with another tangled disc of concept-driven tunes. So far I’m loving Gone Man, Paradise Blues and Unhinged. I’m still giving the disc a thorough listen-through though, so new favorites...

YOG-E. Bear
That’s right, Blogosphere… E attempted her first Yoga class today. Perhaps I was more picnic basket than zen, but I do think it helped that nagging need to crack my back (not that I ever actually do, of course). Thanks to J for helping me sneak into her class (she sneakingly took 2 Texercise Tix…tsk tsk).

FOUND
All I needed was some caffeine (or pizza, apparently) to remember that I left my books in the kitchen before break…and there they were, waiting for me. Mystery: SOLVED!

HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BOOK?
Last seen in my room at the Phi house pre-break. Perhaps it took a walk with T and MBY but never made it back from 5th? HELP!

Once I finish packing (ah!), I’ll be on my way to ATX with J. See y’all there!

WORD FREAK: anagrams, alphagrams, bingos ......
E’s Note: I really should be packing right now, rather than blog-crastinating. My final read of the break was an expose on the world of competitive Scrabble (who knew?) titled WORD FREAK by Stefan Fatsis. Just as rigorous and competitive as the realm of competitive chess, Scrabble experts and novices alike cram thousands of words, from two-letter endgame fixtures to nine-letter...

J & E: ATX Bound TOMORROW!
On SATURDAY the lovely J and I will embark on our Southbound journey back to the ATX. I have yet to pack or even decide what I need to bring down to school with me…whoops. I hope everyone has practiced dodging handouts in the West Mall over the break. SEE YA’LL IN THE ATX!

ET: Extraordinary Travelers
THIS SEMSTER’S GOAL: T and I are going to transform from BAD IDEA BEARS into Bear Grylls (of Man vs. Wild fame, for those of you non-Discovery Channel kids). Hiking, spelunking, camping, kayaking- you name it, we’ll be taking advantage of Austin’s gorgeous places to be doing it. BRING IT ON!

SKINS Season 4 - what you SHOULD be watching!
Even I’ll admit it: the “new class” of Skins hasn’t stood up to its Series 1/2 predecessors, but that doesn’t make me any less excited for this Brit teen-drama. I would describe it as a Gossip Girl with accents if it were on HBO. It’s characters aren’t wealthy (unlike its American counterpart) and are more concerned with all partying, drugs and...

New Chelsea!
I absolutely love Chelsea Handler. I picture her as this delicate balance between David Sedaris and Kathy Griffin; less pretentious than the former, less tabloid-oriented than the latter. She’s the everygirl’s comedian. But it goes further than just her TV show Chelsea Lately; if you haven’t read either of her books (entitled My Horizontal Life and Are You There Vodka?...

Invictus (aka: the one where Matt Damon is not...
Last night I treated D to a night out at the movies as her vacation time slowly winds to an end. In honor of the other big sports game going on that night, we decided Invictus was probably the way to go. I was excited for this movie when I saw its preview, mainly because it is everything M could ever want wrapped up into a single film. Not normally my cup of tea, but the combination of Matt...

Remember when...?
Tonight J and I are heading to the Dollar Theater to check out Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, based on one of the preeminent books of my childhood. This got me thinking about all the other books I used to thumb through as a kiddo and how great they were, prompting me to make the following list of some of my favorites (that I can remember). What are your favorite books from your beginning...

It's (not really all that) Complicated
On the note of romantic comedies (and the noted exceptions that I really like): It’s Complicated is hilarious in that can’t-stand-to-watch-it-but-can’t-stop, more-awkward-than-your-family-reunion, so-glad-I’m-not-seeing-this-with-my-parents kind of way. There’s not too much complicated about it: Streep, Baldwin and Martin are all on point and an appearance or two...

Are you there Bridget Jones? It's me, E.
I’m not one for the chick-lit/romantic comedy types. Nothing against them or their avid fan base, but I personally always feel a little disappointed after reading or watching. There are, however, exceptions to this rule, with my all-time favorite being anything and everything Bridget Jones (books and films). Not only are they hilarious, but they are carefully based on or around Jane Austen...
