I can’t even handle this level of hilarity. I would say it’s awesome, but we all know it’s beyond that. It’s armoirsome.

John Green: Harry Potter Nerds Win at Life (x)
Because nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff. We don’t have to be like, ‘Oh yeah that purse is okay’ or like, ‘Yeah, I like that band’s early stuff.’ Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself-love it. Hank, when people call people nerds, mostly what they are saying is, ‘You like stuff’, which is just not a good insult at all, like ‘You are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’.
Every time I read this or watch this video, I can’t help but smile. If being too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness makes me nerdy, then nerdy I am and shall forever be ‘til…well, forever. DFTBA!
Leave it to Hank Green to give us some fun and intelligent musings on SOPA and PIPA.
If you missed Hank’s earlier Top 5 Reasons Why We Should Not Let Congress Regulate the Internet, then I’d suggest you watch that too. Oh what? Is that the video right below this? Why, yes. Yes it is.
DFTBA.
“The job of reading is not to understand the author’s intent. The job of reading is to use stories as a way into seeing other people as we see ourselves.”
THANK YOU, JOHN.
Also: pizza. Yum.

(This is not a picture of John Green. This is a picture of Willow Rosenberg, otherwise known as a REALLY smart girl. It seemed fitting.) |

Every Vlogbrother video is great in its own little way, but I absolutely adored this gem where Hank answers questions that people tend to ask Google. Plus: Zelda poster front and center! Plus: educational value! Plus: laughs! Plus: Hank tells us why we’re here (spoiler: not really, but why are you asking Google?). That’s a lot of plus signs and not a lot o’ negatives, people.
DFTBA.
I love the Green Bros and the land of Nerdfighteria that they rule over with iron fists but open hearts. Hank’s most recent video on the end of NASA’s space shuttle program was both educational and made me chuckle with glee. It also got me thinking thinking that Hank and John should team up with their long lost cousin (or so I’m hypothesizing) Seth Green, also a huge fan of NASA, for some vlog fun and general awesomeness. Anyone else agree?
Oh, and as it says in the “About Me” section of 99.9% of the Nerdfighter population’s online profiles…DFTBA.

Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I hate The Catcher in the Rye. I know, I know— Holden is such a normal teenager blah blah blah. But in my opinion, that whole book came off like Salinger TRYING to write what he THOUGHT a teen would be feeling, thinking and saying, while never truly capturing anything real.
But if it’s real teenage angst you’re looking for, look no further than two kids named Will Grayson and their large, ironically nicknamed pal “Tiny” Cooper.
Will Grayson, Will Grayson doesn’t just TRY to delve into teenage minds; it SUCCEEDS and all the while boasts enough heart, humor and warmth to make you want give all the characters a standing ovation by the end. There’s swearing, porn, fake IDs, drunken ramblings and all that uncomfortable angst that comes with being in high school…but it somehow manages to be uplifting, as opposed to depressing. An uplifting book about high school? You better believe it.
While homosexuality is a big theme in WG, WG, the book is about more than just the tribulations of being an out (or not yet out) teen. It is about growing up, learning to see outside yourself and building relationships of every kind: romantic, platonic and familial. Some of the characters and situations are a stretch (am I really supposed to believe that the Student Council put $1000 into a random kid’s play?), but there’s enough whimsy and honesty woven throughout that those details can slide by without bothering me too much.
Did I mention it all builds up to a fabulous musical theatre performance, complete with a song titled BORN THIS WAY before Lady Gaga ripped off Madonna’s Express Yourself and tried to pass it off as her own?
My review does this book no justice. So let me just say it: this book is fantastic. I highly recommend it, especially to teenage boys. Case in point: as soon as I finished it, I put it on my kid brother’s nightstand for him to read next. Perhaps if more teenagers read this, there would be a little more tolerance and understanding in the world (both of others and ourselves).
Move over, Holden Caulfield…Will Graysons are in town!
